Compressed files, and less of them, mean a faster site.
The past few weeks the TG team has been hard at work tuning up the site. The main focuses have been faster response times and easier navigation. Rodger has not seen very much daylight lately, and his eyes are glazed and permanently imprinted from the back-glow of his lcd screens. He came out of his hole only for the basic necessities of life, with a focused intent on finishing this most recent project.
With the discovery of some really helpful tools (YSlow in particular), he was able to accurately pinpoint bottlenecks, and remedy them. Page load time for the default home page was virtually cut in half.
